Wisam manages a team of four that handles the ingestion and linkage of data, as well as managing and maintaining the infrastructure that supports BioGrid’s data sharing platform.

Importantly, his team ensures that the technology underpinning BioGrid’s services is robust, reliable and secure.

The team springs into action once a collaborator has requested access to the BioGrid platform and the ethics and governance elements have been completed. If it’s a data custodian who wants to link their data set to the platform, Wisam’s team works with the custodian’s IT team on the infrastructure at the custodian’s site (the ‘Local research Repository’) to enable the data to be shared and linked.

Some data is static and doesn’t change once it’s connected to the BioGrid platform, but other data sets will be updated or modified over time, so Wisam’s team will update the linkages as required. With hundreds of data sets connected to the platform and the number continuing to grow, it’s a significant activity for the team.

Like other BioGrid managers, Wisam regularly works directly with members and collaborators and enjoys the variety of the role – no one day is like any other.

Who is Wisam?

Wisam joined BioGrid in 2018, after many years working in IT across several industry sectors including construction and education.

He holds a Computer Science degree, along with a Master of Business and IT.
